A Closer Look at Building Heights

Retaining Saratoga Springs’ Character & Charm

Saratoga Springs is growing, which means increased development pressure on the city’s downtown area. Denser development in the “urban core” helps our community save on infrastructure costs, promotes energy efficiency, and protects surrounding rural areas and environmental resources from sprawl. But will this new development negatively impact Saratoga Springs’ quintessential historic character? How can we achieve our sustainability goals and preserve our city’s aesthetic charm?

Join us for a conversation about building heights in downtown Saratoga Springs, co-sponsored by Sustainable Saratoga and the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation (SSPF). Planner George Jacquemart of BFJ Planning will offer perspectives on how people react to building height, followed by a panel discussion featuring:

  • Local developer Sonny Bonacio, Bonacio Construction, Inc.
  • Local architect Matt Hurff, Frost Hurff Architects
  • Doug Kerr, Chair of the SSPF Advocacy Committee
  • Kate Maynard, Principal Planner for the City of Saratoga Springs

This event is free and open to the public. To learn more about our advocacy for sustainable development, check out our Housing & Urban Planning page.
